What is the Bagus Hati Project?

Bagus Hati translated from Indonesian means Beautiful Heart. We are not really sure exactly how the project will run at at this point, but we would like it to be a cultural exchange principally between art and design students from the University of Western Australia, and the Indonesian Art Institute of Denpasar. Hopefully it will include interested designers, performers, practitioners and writers who would like to share their ideas relating to the heart. Professor Michael Hunnewell is interested in joining us from Florida USA

The final format for the exchange will be digital, this can be digital recording eg. photograph or work on a cd/dvd. It could include video music, sound or slideshows and of course any combination of these.

The work will be collated electronically or in the case of large files be sent to Paul Trinidad at the address below. Printable work will be exhibited hard copy and electronic work will be compiled and exhibited on video interface.

The work will be exhibited in the FALVA project space in later in 2008

Concepts
Investigation into nature of the Heart:
Eg. good heart, bad heart, heart felt stories or events of little or no consequence, or stories that reflect on National Security – conspiracy theory etc? discussion on hearts – Love stories – Edgar Allen Poe ?
Cultural Hearts, the heart of the people, the heart of the issue, the aching heart, the bleeding hearth, the heartless bureaucracy?
(avoid sensitive personal issues remembering this will be published and you will need to talk about the investigations on line – and in critiques? Don’t give too much of yourself away and risk breaking your heart? – Challenge your research skills, find information on the web and any other sources)
Other thoughts:
Does the heart have to be literal?
Are feeling important– can they evolve – change.
Politics of the heart – who does it affect – eg. Personal (bad health), group (heartless), community (cultural heart), national (heart of the nation)?

Technical:
This project can be considered digital, meaning that information can be transmitted and published electronically in catalogue form and on the world wide web.

Digitally worked images are not an essential requisite – for participants working in ‘other media’ the interpretation of digital is broad. Participants are welcome to submit digital photographs. This could include a photo of a scenario, scanned or photographed traditional media work or a full-worked digital image?

Each participant to submit a digital image size 710 x 710 pixels at 150 dpi resolution.
In addition, title, name of participant, medium of work and in no more than 200 words, a brief description of the scenario relating to the reading of the work or artists intent / statement.
