Welcome to Michael Kane Taylors page.

Michael was our guest lecturer for the final reviews held 0n October 27.
Luckily for us he stepped from his retirement from Griffith University in 2001 into this position to pass on insights and wisdom gathered over a comprehensive career in the art education field.
Michael has been making prints for about forty years and for the past fifteen years, his practice has been primarily in digital print media.
After exploring many of the traditional methods, he discovered that he got a real buzz from working with computers, this feeling is still maintained and driven the inspiration leading to a progression, over the years, from an Amiga 2000 to a succession of Macs.
Michael comments, “This is a huge change from the toxic solvents and acid-scarred lungs he was growing accustomed to. With little consideration to health and safety issues, Printmaking studios were dangerous places in the ‘70s.”
Michaels current work is largely narrative and is concerned, in the main, with aspects of Individual and Collective Demise. Many of the works re-state religious or literary texts in the light of current world politics/perspectives and events.
Most of the prints combine autographic input, digital photography and scanned imagery, as Michael states, “A sort of self-appropriation that plunders my earlier paintings and intaglio prints.” He uses a Mac G4 desktop machine and an Epson wide format printer.
When pressed for additional background details, Michael expansively shared, “I sometimes win things and am represented in public collections here and, mostly, there.”

Great stuff,

thank you Michael!
