Introduction Project
23 process is panacea
We are calling for expressions
of interest for participants for a three hour drawing workshop
with follow up exhibition of works. If you are interested
please read on.
This is a project hosted by the WA School of Art Design &
Media, Central TAFE,
in conjunction with Paul Trinidad and the Faculty of Architecture
Landscape and Visual Arts at the UWA. In the first instance
the project is simply a workshop in drawing which will be
conducted on the 12th of October 2006 for
TAFE staff at WASADM and 13th October at
UWA for staff at FALVA.
The objectives will be, to
take the notion of 'what is a drawing', to the threshold and
perhaps beyond, of 'where does painting begin'.
Materials and methods covered will be, charcoal and acrylic
paint on board, paper and collage. The processes will be experimental
and process oriented, rather than focussed on conceptualization
or drafting. This is not to say process and conceptualization
or drafting are mutually exclusive to process.
Subject will be feet as self
portrait. This can be dealt with at the individual’s
discretion, literal, conceptual, psychological or partial.
Image transfer methods will be discussed.
The style of the workshop
will be informal tutorial - workshop - please come with your
preconceived ideas (photographs - photocopies of artworks
etc). Warning: know-alls and intellectuals will be drawn and
quartered and trouble makers note: there may be several random
'swaps' of work along the way.
The outcomes will be to follow thru at the
end of the workshop and complete the 'drawing' for exhibition
at the Cullity Gallery on 23 - 27 October 2006.
The exhibition, though brief,
will be formally catalogued and published electronically,
works can be made for sale with a 30% comission.
Any one available to assist
with the follow thru - hanging of the exhibition and opening
event?
Please contact me on
this
link.

Interested: then this is what
you need to do:
All participants should come
with imagery they are ready to work with – interpret
or simply use for inspiration. (Any one have the sound track
for Chariots of Fire?)
Foot jokes, stories, anecdotes all appreciated but please
– no football!
If you wish to remain entirely
privy to your inspirational ideas and reference material please
bring some extra’s for the fray – the intention
is to work a range of ideas thru on the one surface –
erasing, adjusting, scratching back etc – this session
is not aimed at transcribing the image, rather we hope to
transcend it, along with ideas of composition, and any other
great things that come up in the process.
It is expected that some of
the drawings will go beyond the threshold of drawing and into
painting – so please bring materials to work wet –
brushes, sponges, and rags.

Formerly we were haunted by the
fear of resembling others, of losing ourselves in a
crowd; afraid of conformity, and obsessed with difference.
Today, we need a solution to deliver us from resembling
others. All that matters now is only to resemble oneself,
to find oneself everywhere, multiplied but loyal to
one's personal formula; to see the same credit listings
everywhere, be on all movie screens at once. Resemblance
is no longer concerned with others, but rather with
the individual in his vague resemblance to himself;
a resemblance born of the individual's reduction to
his simple elements.
